“A Very Vampire Thanksgiving” by Celia Breslin with GIVEAWAY

My special Thanksgiving guest is urban fantasy Champagne author Celia Breslin . Last year, Celia’s Haven, the first of the Tranquilli Bloodline series, was published by Champagne Books. It quickly became a personal favorite. After NaNoWriMo (a total failure for me this year) is over, I plan to enjoy every moment reading Destiny which is already queued up. The characters are delicious. Did I mention they were vampires? For now, enjoy Celia’s Thanksgiving offering.

Picture of a fast moving cars at nightHi Everyone!  I’m delighted to visit Rita Bay’s Blog during this holiday week. In addition to roaming the blogosphere for my DESTINY book tour, I’m busy preparing for my real world, family Thanksgiving dinner.  We do a mix of traditional and California cuisine over here, with the requisite roast turkey and its fixings (stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, etc.) plus grilled fish, roast vegetables, and salads. Dessert is typically a variety of pies and assorted chocolates.  Okay, now I’m hungry! 🙂

In honor of this holiday, I brought some of my characters with me today, to introduce themselves and share how they plan to spend Thanksgiving. Enjoy!

Carina:  “Hi there. I’m Carina (Rina to my friends), heroine of Celia’s Tranquilli Bloodline Series. Dance club owner, vampire princess. For the past several years, I’ve spent Thanksgiving with my friends: Adrian, Mark, Ren, Faith, and Kai. Adrian, Mark, and Ren are fantastic cooks. We usually do sushi, and grilled meat and fish, along with rice and noodle dishes. For dessert, we go for beverages such as port or cognac, paired with cheese. We’ll do exactly this for Thanksgiving this week!”

Alexander: “Hello. I’m Alexander, Carina’s fated soul mate. I haven’t celebrated Thanksgiving in years. I look forward to my first holiday experience with Carina. No food for me since I’m a vampire. Blood for dinner and whiskey after.”

Jonas: “I am The Executioner. Duty calls on me every day.”

Thomas: “I am Carina’s vampire uncle and will attend her festivities while Jonas attends to our…enemies.”

Dixon: “That would be me, their enemy, Dixon de Champagne. I’m from England. Thanksgiving is just another day for me to pursue my blood vendetta against Thomas and the entire Tranquilli cosca. And by the way, Carina will be mine.”

Fineas: “Dixon, do you ever burn yourself with all that hot air you blow?  Hello, I’m Fineas, vampire extraordinaire, member of The Tranquilli cosca, and the life of any party. No Thanksgiving dinner for me, but you’re welcome to attend the wonderful, after-party in my penthouse. Not for the faint of heart, however. Or Dixon.”

Destiny (Book 2 of the Tranquilli Bloodline Series)

An Urban Fantasy Romance from Champagne Books

In HAVEN, San Francisco nightclub owner Carina Tranquilli survives a vicious attack by her vampire family’s longtime archenemies. Several weeks later, as she struggles with PTSD and survivor’s guilt, supervillain Dixon resurfaces and kidnaps two of her best friends. To save them, Carina must comply with the evil bastard’s unusual demands. The kicker? She must tell no one what she is up to.

Meanwhile, she has a new dance club to open for the preternatural community, a fated soul mate acting secretive and distant, and a sexy, new, undead friend who’d love to take Alexander’s place in her heart and bed.

Blackmailed, betrayed, tempted…sometimes destiny has a wicked sense of humor.

An Author’s Desk: Guest Celia Breslin

Celia Breslin  is a writer of  urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Her debut novel, Haven, was recently released by Champagne Books. Celia lives in San Francisco with her  husband, daughter, and two feisty cats. In addition to writing, she reads slush pile and line edit for an indie publisher, plays piano, and is addicted to boot camp-style workouts and dark chocolate. She claims the latter two cancel each other out, LOL.

CeliaBreslin-Desk[1]I love my office.  It’s actually one tidy corner of a multi-functional room. My favorite part is the view. Through the large window to the right of my desk, I can see the hills of my San Francisco neighborhood, enjoy the warmth of the sun and also watch the fog roll in at night. Of course, sometimes it’s foggy all day. Then it feels like I’m working inside a cotton ball, LOL.

As a full-time mom, I fit in writing and other editorial work around my daughter’s schedule. A typical day during the school year looks like this: Chauffeur child to school, exercise, write, line edit and/or read slush pile, pick up child, spend evening with family. Rinse, repeat.

My environment runs the gamut from noisy — music and/or kids playing in the house — to quiet. Usually, I can function regardless of the life sounds surrounding me.  But there are indeed times when I require a tranquil environment, and other times when I crank up some mood music. An example of the latter – I wrote the majority of the action sequences in Haven while listening to NIN and The Prodigy.

I’m currently working on the second book in The Tranquilli Bloodline Series. Here’s a little taste – Carina knows it’s going to be one hell of a bad day when her archenemy sends her a gift-wrapped box of blood…

Haven_200x300San Francisco nightclub owner Carina Tranquilli works hard, plays hard, and never allows the death of her parents and her twelve-year memory gap to get her down. But her life takes a left turn when a witch attacks her on her twenty-fifth birthday.

Three hauntingly familiar vampires emerge to reveal she possesses a latent power. To protect her from their enemies, they admit to wiping her memories clean and abandoning her as a child, but now they need her help. As she struggles to evade her new protectors and even newer enemies, she meets Alexander, an enigmatic, undead musician. Insta-lust flares, leaving her wanting more.

With evil’s minions hounding her every move, and everything she thought she knew turned on its head, Carina must harness her burgeoning power, unravel her vampire family’s web of deceit, and fight to have a love life…without getting killed in the process.
