Lord Byron Albanian

Posthumous portrait of Lord Byron in Albanian dress, painting by Thomas Phillips c.1835. Phillips knew Byron personally and had painted him in his youth. The painting represents Byron’s time in Albania where he fought on the side of the Greek Independence forces against the Turks. Byron died of malaria during the war. He is considered a hero by the Greek people.  National Portrait Gallery, London.
