This beautiful beach in the Bahamas surrounded by mountains could easily be a model for Aphrodite’s personal retreat on Aphrodite’s Island, the site for Her Teddy Bare. Originally the home of the Taino who moved from South America, the first recorded history was with the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492 which he named San Salvador. The earliest permanent European settlement was in 1647 when the Bahamas served as a center for the slave trade. Later, pirates moved in and eventually took over the island for more than a decade. The pirates were evicted and the Bahamas prospered under British governance. About 85% of the Bahamians are descended from the slave population.
