Pic of the Weekend: Lord Byron’s Sister Augusta Leigh

This portrait miniature of the Honorable Augusta Leigh was by James Holmes. Augusta was Byron’s half-sister, the daughter of John Byron and his first wife, Lady Amelia D’Arcy, Baroness Conyers. Augusta was rumored to have had an affair with Byron which probably began in the summer of 1813. Augusta’s child, Medora, may have been Byron’s daughter. Medora led a scandal-filled life of her own, but converted to Catholicism and ended up a nun in a convent.
